Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar investigated the viral video and found it to be fake.
Misbar’s thorough investigation revealed the footage to be AI-generated.
AI-Generated Video Falsely Shows Canadians Celebrating Trudeau’s Resignation
Contrary to social media users’ viral circulation of the video, the footage does not depict a real celebration of Canadians regarding PM Justin Trudeau’s recent resignation.
A close examination of the video reveals several mistakes indicating the footage is generated using AI software. The faces, hands, Canadian flags, and other elements in the video are inconsistently rendered, exposing it as fabricated content.
In addition, glasses suddenly appear in the hands of the man sitting in the tub as he raises them in celebration.
Canadians Protest Against COVID Mandates in 2022
In February 2022, a group of Canadians protesting COVID-19 mandates brought a portable hot tub to the demonstration site.
In freezing temperatures, amidst trucks and banners, two protesters staged a “jacuzzi protest” on an Ottawa street. The pair sat in the portable hot tub, demanding an end to COVID-19 vaccine and mask mandates.
Meanwhile, police issued warnings of “imminent” action to clear protesters from the capital and began making arrests, as Prime Minister Justin Trudeau emphasized that the demonstrations posed a threat to public safety.
Canada’s PM Justin Trudeau Resigns Under Growing Pressure
After nearly a decade in power, Justin Trudeau announced his decision to step down as prime minister.
Trudeau, who took office in November 2015 with promises of hope and renewal, faced mounting pressure to resign in recent months.
Trudeau stated he would remain in office until his Liberal Party selects a new leader and confirmed that Parliament would be prorogued until March 24.
“This country deserves a real choice in the next election and it has become clear to me that if I'm having to fight internal battles, I cannot be the best option in that election,” he said during a press conference Monday.
Calls for his resignation intensified in December when Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland, a long-time ally, stepped down. In her resignation letter, Freeland cited concerns over then-U.S. President-elect Donald Trump’s tariff threats against Canadian goods and criticized Trudeau for not addressing what she called a “grave challenge” posed by Trump’s policies.
Trump previously mocked Trudeau, referring to him as a “governor” of the “great state of Canada,” implying Canada is a U.S. state rather than a sovereign nation.
“If Canada merged with the U.S., there would be no Tariffs, taxes would go way down, and they would be TOTALLY SECURE from the threat of the Russian and Chinese Ships that are constantly surrounding them,” Trump wrote.
