The FIFA Men’s World Cup is an international tournament held every four years, either in a single country or jointly hosted by multiple countries.

The FIFA World Cup 2030 will mark the centenary of the tournament, which was first held in 1930. FIFA announced on December 11 that the Men's World Cup will be jointly hosted by three countries, including one in the Middle East.

FIFA announced that Spain, Portugal and Morocco will host the extraordinary event. The FIFA website reported that the decision was agreed upon by all 211 FIFA member associations during an extraordinary FIFA Congress.

Four other countries—Argentina, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay—had made bids in October 2023 to host the FIFA World Cup 2030. However, FIFA chose only three host countries.

CNN reported in October 2022 that, despite the war with Russia, Ukraine joined Spain and Portugal’s bid to host the FIFA World Cup 2030.

In March 2023, The New York Times reported that Morocco replaced Ukraine in its bid to host the FIFA World Cup 2030.

The 2030 World Cup tournament is scheduled to run from June 13 to July 21, 2030. According to FIFA, the football match schedule will be organized to allow teams competing in the 2030 games extra time to arrive, rest and train before the actual matches.

In 2030, FIFA will mark an extraordinary milestone, celebrating 100 years since the inaugural World Cup, held in Uruguay from July 13 to 30, 1930. The final game was played between Uruguay and Argentina and ended with Uruguay’s 4-2 victory, the Olympics detailed.

It added that the teams that competed in the first-ever FIFA World Cup were Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Brazil, Mexico, Peru, Paraguay, the U.S., France, Belgium, Yugoslavia, Romania, and the national team of the host country, Uruguay.

At the time, Uruguay was celebrating its 100th anniversary of independence, and the celebration expanded when it was chosen to host the first FIFA World Cup.

The decision that Spain, Portugal and Morocco will host the international tournament in 2030 was made alongside the decision that Saudi Arabia will host the FIFA World Cup 2034.

Portuguese footballer Cristiano Ronaldo, who is currently playing for Saudi Arabia’s Al Nassr Football Club, posted a video on the X platform congratulating Saudi Arabia for the historic achievement after it was chosen to host the FIFA World Cup 2034.

The 2034 World Cup will be held in 15 different stadiums across five cities: Riyadh, Jeddah, Al Khobar, Abha and Neom, Saudi 2034, the official website of the upcoming World Cup in Saudi Arabia, revealed.

Ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2030 in Spain, Morocco and Portugal, and the FIFA World Cup 2034 in Saudi Arabia, the 23rd FIFA World Cup will take place in 2026 across three countries: the U.S., Mexico and Canada.

The FIFA World Cup 2026 is expected to begin on June 11 and run until July 19, 2026, in 16 cities across the three host countries. The 2026 tournament will be the first World Cup since 2002 to be hosted by more than one country.

In addition, for Mexico, the 2026 tournament will be its third, as it previously hosted two men’s World Cups: in 1970 and 1986. On the other hand, the U.S. last hosted the FIFA World Cup in 1994.

It will also be Canada’s first time hosting or co-hosting the international football tournament.

When Will FIFA World Cup 2026 Tickets Be Available?

The New York Times reported that FIFA has warned football fans to purchase tickets for the 2026 World Cup only from “official ticketing websites.”

FIFA also confirmed that tickets for the next World Cup will be available for sale in late 2025 and will be sold exclusively on FIFA.com/tickets.

According to Britannica, FIFA organizes a World Cup for football every four years to allow time for qualification tournaments and playoffs.
