The 2023 Earthquake in Turkey and Syria
On February 6, a 7.8 earthquake hit Turkey and Syria. The earthquake left significant material damage as the combined death toll in Turkey and Syria has exceeded 5000. The epicentre of the 7.8-magnitude quake was 23 kilometers east of Nurdagi, in Turkey’s Gaziantep province, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) said. The Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has declared the 10 provinces affected by the devastating earthquakes in southern Turkey as a disaster zone. Turkey has imposed a state of emergency.
